MAJOR AWARD AWAITS VITALI KLITSCHKO AT WBC CONVENTION IN BAKÚ
One of the most spectacular moments of the WBC’s 55th convention in Baku, Azerbaijan, will be a heartfelt homage to the great and tremendously admired Vitali Klitschko.
The Ukrainian fighter was born on July 9 of 1971, in Belovodsk, Kyrgyzstan, in the old Soviet Union. He began his career as a professional boxer in 1996, winning his first 24 matches almost all via knockout.
Also known as “Doctor Iron Fist” he won the World Boxing Council heavyweight crown on October 11, 2008 by defeating Samuel Peter in eight rounds.
Despite, the great champion announcing his retirement in 2005 due to injury, he characteristically worked day and night to overcome all obstacles, returning in January 2007. With an impressive record of 45 victories, 41 KO´s and only two losses, Vitali is considered by many experts and boxing fans as one of the finest heavyweights in history, with a very high KO Ratio of 87%.
Our great champion fought his last fight on September 8, 2012, defeating Manuel Charr; However, his struggle continued, demonstrating his magnificent spirit and sheer bravery, at the very forefront of the battle in the streets, seeking human equality, rights and peace for the inhabitants of Ukraine.
In this vitally important next phase of his life, Vitali entered the world of politics as advisor to the president of Ukraine of the time, Viktor Yushchenko. However, the peak of his political career came after being elected Mayor of Kiev after the 2014 volatile events in Ukraine. A position of trust and great responsibility that our former champion exercises to this day.
For all of the above and for being an example to follow for everyone, Vitali Klitschko will receive our deserved recognition among the World Boxing Council. his family.
