Malignaggi Breaks Down Crawford-Postol, Reveals His Pick
Former two-division world champion Paulie Malignaggi, is almost ready to travel out for his big fight. He travels on Sunday July 24 to New York City, where he’ll close his training camp for the upcoming bout against Gabriel Bracero on July 30th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Malignaggi spoke to Ringsidefightingnews.com/Boxingscene.com this afternoon from his camp in Miami, and broke down Saturday’s WBC/WBO super lightweight unification fight between Viktor Postol and Terence Crawford, which takes place at the MGM Grand in Vegas.
RFN: What are your thoughts on the Crawford-Postol fight?
Malignaggi: I think Crawford has more variety in his style; Postol is technically very good too. Another factor is that Postol is a very disciplined athlete, he has an excellent jab and power in his right hand. Viktor knocked out Matthysse with a great right hand. It will be a great fight, Crawford has better variety in his punches and Postol is very strong mentally.
RFN: Do you think that the Postol physical advantages could be a factor on his favor?
Malignaggi: I think if Postol can use his jab from the beginning, that could make some difference. Crawford is a good counter-puncher. Postol’s work should be focused on keeping Crawford on the defensive throughout the fight.
RFN: Crawford switches his stance from left to right; do you believe that gives him an edge against Postol?
Malignaggi: I think that Crawford must be careful and know when to change his stance. During the fight he should know when and how to make these adjustments, Postol uses his right hand very well and that should be something that Crawford must neutralize to make his game.
RFN: Who would you choose as the winner of this fight?
Malignaggi: This will be a very tough fight for Postol and Crawford. I think the discipline and mental strength of Postol is important. However, Crawford is a very talented fighter and I think that he can make adjustments, and leave the ring with another victory.
