PORTER vs TYNER Exclusive exhibition fight
No Keith Thurman? No problem…..Shawn Porter, who was scheduled for an explosive 147-pound title showdown with Keith Thurman on March 12 at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut, is still waiting to find out when that bout will take place following a car accident in February that forced Thurman to postpone. In the meantime, though, the Showtime must go on. When life hands you an open calendar date, you fill it with boxing.
Porter (26-1-1, 16 KOs) will stage an exhibition match against Lanardo Tyner (30-10-2, 19 KOs) on Saturday at at 10:30 p.m. ET/7:30 p.m. PT from his gym, the Porter Hy-Performance Center in Las Vegas.
The closed exhibition will stream exclusively on Premier Boxing Champions’ Facebook page using Facebook Live’s new single-camera streaming service. The fight, which will be preceded by a Friday weigh-in, will be a 12-rounder with both boxers wearing headgear and 16-ounce gloves. A professional referee will be working in the ring, and mock judges will keep score.
Following the fight against Tyner – who has faced the likes of Lamont Peterson, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Wale Omotoso – Porter will host a 30-minute Facebook Live question-and-answer session. Fight fans will have the opportunity to ask Porter about his intense training regimen, his thoughts on the Thurman fight, or what, exactly, his beloved Cleveland Browns are going to do about their quarterback situation.
“This is 100 percent for anybody out there who loves to see me compete and perform,” Porter said. “Lanardo Tyner is a veteran who has fought almost everybody, and he’ll provide good excitement. We won’t be going through the motions. This is real.”
