Roman Gonzalez rematch with Srisaket Sor Rungvisai live on Sky Sports
Roman Gonzalez’s revenge mission on a sizzling super-flyweight night will be shown live on Sky Sports.
‘Chocolatito’ goes in with the man who shattered his unbeaten record and took his WBC title away, Thailand’s Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, in the early hours of Sunday, September 10.
The double world-title card from the Staples Center in Carson, California, also sees Japan’s Naoya Inoue defend his WBO strap against Antonio Nieves of America.
On top of that, Carlos Cuadras, who lost the WBC title to Gonzalez in his first step up in weight, and former flyweight supremo Juan Francisco Estrada meet in an all-Mexican affair at 115lbs.
British star Kal Yafai, the WBA super-flyweight holder, will be keeping a close eye on both world-title fights with a unification and ultimately ‘Chocolatito’, in his sights.
“This is one of those superb nights that the hardcore boxing fans and purists can’t wait to see, but I have a feeling we are going to see something special,” said Yafai.
“I will be watching and obviously Gonzalez is the big name out there, but I am now an established world champion, so a unification fight with either of the winners, would suit me fine.”
The outstanding card is the latest addition to a superb September of boxing, live on Sky Sports, following on from the Sky Sports Box Office showing of Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor.
We begin with Conor Benn, Joshua Buatsi and Lawrence Okolie in a NXTGEN show on September 1, Luke Campbell takes on world lightweight champion Jorge Linares on September 17, and the month finishes off with Paul Butler and Stuart Hall topping the ‘Battle on the Mersey’ bill in Liverpool.
